Nope, Johnny gave it back at the end of Jonathan’s run.

Wrong.  Matchstick gave him back control of the Negative Zone (and presumably the Annihilation Wave), but specifically withheld the cosmic control rod.  I believe it was back in Hickman’s FF issue 18.  In fact, just this month in Fraction/Lee’s FF issue 12, we see a rod-less Annihilus getting smacked upside the head by Doc Doom.  If there’s been a comic recently with Annihilus in possession o’ the rod without explaining how he got it back, then we got a continuity error on our hands.
